Arrival Movie Review: Go See This

What it wasn’t. It wasn’t an action-packed sci-fi adventure about aliens invading the Earth. Thank goodness.

What is was. Well shot, acted, and plotted. It simplified some things for plot convenience, sure…but overall, this was a solid story about aliens that show up and, well, just kind of sit there in their big stone pod thingies. Like I said, it’s not a big action adventure flick, but I wasn’t bored for a moment.

The aliens have arrived, but…why are they here? arrival

That is the one of the big questions answered in this movie. There is also a nice reveal toward the end that provides context for other parts of the story. I won’t say anything more about that here (and I will delete any comments on this post that do), other than…the twist made sense to me, and its effect left me with a happy-sad kind of feeling walking out of the theater.

Finally, I thought this film had some things to say about humanity that seem to be particularly important nowadays. There is NO overt or otherwise political message in this movie, but it captures a realistic, if not simplistic, view of the World (aka our planet) as it stands today. It also offers at least one somewhat hopeful potential for our future.

Sorry to be so vague, but as usual, there are no spoilers here, so you’ll have to go watch it for yourself if you want to know more. I highly recommend seeing this in the theaters if possible, for the subtle but well done effects, if for no other reason. Also, definitely see this if you like a bit of thought mixed in with your movies about alien visitors. Enjoy!

Hello this is somewhat of off topic but I was wanting to know if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding expertise so I wanted to get advice from someone with experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there. Although I can manually code some HTML, if you choose WordPress for your blog and choose either one of the basic themes available or another theme that provides a good WYSIWYG interface, your need to code should be minimal. I think with the theme I use (Purity), the most coding I have to do manually is when I use my plugin to create tables. If you want JUST a blog, versus what I have here, which is a blog/website combo, and IF you want something super easy to create posts, I would actually suggest, provided by Google. Hope this helps. – Mike
